About Me
Over the past 20 years I have served in a variety of leadership roles. As an educator, I have worked as a Director of Career Readiness and Workforce Development, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Coordinator of Academic Interventions, a K-12 instructional coach, and a literacy specialist. In these roles I have written and managed numerous state, federal, and regional grants, totaling over $9 million. I have also written RFPs for educational publishing companies. I began my career as a journalist and education columnist for the San Gabriel Valley Newspaper Group. I have written books on writing strategies, literacy, and phonics instruction, and have served as a contributing author and editor in educational publishing for professional books on comprehension strategies, reading and writing strategies, social-emotional learning, and strategies for English learners. I have led district-wide improvement initiatives for the Orange County Department of Education, and have provided professional development and training across the country, and in Canada and American Samoa. I have made presentations on various aspects of education for state, regional, and national organizations. I have a Bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. I recently left my district job to be a full time consultant so I could help create, lead, and manage initiatives and projects that were good for students and meaningful to me. I am married, with two grown children and one grandson.
